President’s Day 2022

President’s Day falls on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022. The observance of George Washington’s Birthday, Feb. 22nd, 1732, is always the third Monday in February.

Washington’s Birthday or President’s Day?

The Federal holiday is officially recognized as Washington’s Birthday, though the Federal government has never legally changed the holiday to President’s Day. However, where it gets complicated is at the state and local level, as they do not need to abide by Federal holidays. 24 U.S. states recognize President’s Day only, while 9 recognize Washington’s Birthday only, and 9 states do not observe any form of these holidays.

Ultimately for many, it is how you choose to honor this day. As a day to recognize Washington’s birthday, or Lincoln’s birthday, or even all American Presidents, past and present.
